said, “Luisa is by our stallion,
Lord Luis who I compete at
1.40m level on. She is bred to
jump and I will bring her on and
produce her myself. Harthill
Bally Miro is by Ramiro B and
out of a Puissance mare who has
already bred an international
horse. We will also be attending
the Solihull Futurity at the end
of the month where we hope
to take a three year old stallion
prospect by Jaguar Mail”.
Samba B received the highest
score of the day awarded to a
potential endurance riding horse
at Myerscough (8.54) and a higher
first premium for his owner Sarah
O’Neill from Newcastle.
Sarah b ought Samba B from
his breeder, Anne Brown of the
Gadebrook Stud in Peterborough
in February of this year. She said,
“I bought Samba B because
of his breeding, his sire
Sambist has sired successful
endurance horses competing
in both Australia and the USA.
He is bred to be a high level
competition horse from very
good racing stock”. Samba
B is out of an Arab mare called
Jazmyn, by Kasadi.
Sarah plans to compete Samba
B to the highest levels in
endurance. He will be left entire
and Sarah hopes to combine
competing him with stallion
duties. Sarah went on to say, “I
want to compete at advanced
level with Samba B, up to 160km
rides. The vet at the Futurity
was very enthusiastic about
him and I found the evaluators
comments really useful too”.
Samba B was also successful at
the Cumberland show earlier this
year, he took 3rd place in the in
hand Arab youngstock class. He
will go on to do more county
shows in hand before going back
to the Futurity next year.
foals, who were presented really
well”.
The Futurity Equine Bridge is
a new initiative for 2013 and
will run as an extension of the
Futurity evaluations. The Futurity
Equine Bridge seeks to provide
top Futurity graduates with the
direction and support they will
need as 4 and 5 year olds so that
they begin their early years under
saddle in a way that allows for
sustained physical and mental
development. In order to be
eligible for the Futurity Equine
Bridge all horses must obtain
two scores of 8.5 or above, one of
which must have been obtained
in their three year old year.
With entries limited to 60 at
each evaluation venue, places
are keenly sought after. Entries
are categorised by discipline
with age groups for foals,
yearlings, two and three year
olds and each horse is evaluated
in hand and loose in a safe
indoor environment as well as
undergoing a vet’s assessment.
Local horse breeders had great
success at the Baileys Horse
Feeds/ British Breeding/British
Equestrian Federation (BEF)
Futurity held on 1st August
at Arena UK. A total of five
youngsters were awarded elite
premiums, including two sports
ponies. An Elite premium
indicates that the horse has
the potential and outlook to
perform at international level.
Three-year-old dressage colt,
Cathmor Florian, owned and bred
by Sarah Watson from Wisbech
and exhibited by the Woodcroft
Stud, took home the highest
score of the day with an elite
score of 9.05. The evaluators said,
“He is a modern, athletic type
with good self-carriage, he is
loose, supple and very light
on his feet”. Cathmor Florian
was awarded an elite premium
at the Futurity as a foal and then
achieved a higher first in 2012 as
a two-year-old. He was Reserve
Champion at his stallion grading
at the British Warmblood Society
last September. Sarah said,
“We are thrilled, our intention
was to breed a nice dressage
horse, but he is way beyond our
expectations. He is only the
second dressage horse we have
bred”. He is by Floriscount, out
of a mare, White Classic, by World
Classic. White Classic is back in
foal now. Sarah said, “Cathmor
Florian is currently being
broken in by the Woodcroft Stud,
we don’t want to rush him, if
he is ready then he will go out
competing next year. We took
him back to the Futurity so he is
eligible for the equine bridge.
My sister, Marie Watson will ride
him”.
Filly foal, Trebella, headed the
eventers for Vin and Liz Jones of
Preci Spark Horses in Lowesby.
Trebella gained an elite score of
9.04, the evaluators commented
on her very modern frame and
ground cover. Trebella is by
Trakehner stallion, Grafenstolz,
out of a mare called Trevarner by
Treffry.
Jo Wright from Newark earned
an elite premium with her pony
foal, RS Charmion de Luxe, who

The BEF’s Head of Equine
Development, Jan Rogers, said:
“The Futurity continues to go
from strength to strength. The
results at Myerscough College
were very encouraging and
we are finding that the horses
our breeders are producing
have the range of talents that
are likely to be needed by the
growing base of riders who wish
to participate in horse sports”.
The BEF Futurity Evaluations are
held at 16 venues throughout the
UK and young horses go home with
a BEF Premium (grade), a stylish
rosette and a detailed, informative
score sheet. An attractive certificate
to keep and frame follows on after
the event. All results are published
on the fully searchable British
Breeding website.

The Futurity evaluators said,

good today at Myerscough and
we saw a very strong group
