Session A— PK-5 Improving Student Learning and Behavior with Yoga
Jacki Sawn Location: Barnard Gym
In this session, teachers will explore the benefits of integrating the practice of yoga into their classroom to improve student learning and behavior. Teachers will discuss and explore how yoga can easily fit into their classroom and daily schedule, as well as investigate some of the resources that exist to support the implementation of this practice with their students. Teachers will also have the opportunity to try some poses they can introduce and use immediately in their classroom following this session!
Session B— 3-12
Want to“ Flip” Your Classroom? David Guertin Location: JFK— 13RED
The main idea is instead of having students come to school to get direct instruction and go home for application of concepts, students get the direct instruction at home( from you!) and come to school for application concepts. Teachers will learn how to“ Flip” a classroom by creating their own authentic video to use with their students.( Bringing your phone with the charging cable is optional).

Culturally Relevant Teaching

In this session, teachers will have an opportunity to learn how to frame the way they teach our students using culturally relevant pedagogy.

A Unique Way to Increase Collaboration

Draw How to Make Toast is a quirky design exercise that reveals unexpected insights into how we frame ideas, communicate, and solve problems using systems thinking. The exercise provides a fantastic warm up for anyone who wants to run meetings and / or create collaborative lessons in more engaging ways. More importantly, it provides a simple but powerful approach to help teams unpack complex problems more collaboratively and effectively.

Amp up your guided reading! In this session, you will learn helpful hints to organize your time and groups and receive materials for enriching your instruction / intervention.
Session F— K-12
Yoga for the Classroom Diana Latorre Location: EHS— E221
This session will add to educators’ classroom management skills and help them create a safer and more effective learning environment. This will be a hands-on course where participants will work in groups to review and teach breathing, yoga, and guided imagery exercises that they can share with their students to reduce stress and anxiety and create a sense of focus. Participants will review this through floor, chair, and standing exercises. Participants will experience a yoga class( moderate level) that will start promptly at the beginning of the session. You will need to wear loose clothing, bring a yoga mat, towel / blanket, and water. Please come prepared with a notebook and writing utensil.

Session G— K-12
Working With Transgender Youth Irwin Krieger, LCSW Location: JFK Auditorium
During this session, Irwin Krieger, LCSW will discuss how to support transgender students. He will cover material such as transgender basics and transgender steps. This session will also discuss advocacy and disclosure at school, as well as parents’ fears and concerns.
Session H— K-5 3 Act Tasks Michele Bellafronte Location: Parkman APR
This session will add to educators ' classroom a visual method of problem solving that engages students in creating the mathematical problem given a picture or video clip.
