Fee $ 19 - Jim Malley May 1 ( Rain date May 8 ) No Surcharge The village of Thompsonville was named after Orrin Thompson , owner of the Thompsonville Carpet Co . in 1828 . Businesses grew rapidly around its main industry . This walking tour begins at the water fountain in front of Town Hall , and wraps around Freshwater Pond , down Asnuntuck St ., past Connecticut River , heads up Main St ., past the Bigelow Commons , then the Polish Home . The tour continues down Alden Avenue , past St . Adalbert ’ s Church , and back to the Town Green . ( Tour starts at the Enfield Town Green - 820 Enfield St .)
ENFIELD STREET CEMETERY ( Thursday ) Enfield Street ( across from Spier Avenue ) May 15 ( Rain date May 22 ) 2:30 to 4:30 p . m . Fee $ 19 – Jim Malley – No Surcharge This walking tour begins at Enfield Street Cemetery main entrance . We will discuss the history of the Connecticut River Valley , our ties with Springfield , Massachusetts , and the founding and development of Enfield . We will also discuss the creation of the Enfield Cemetery Association . We will also visit the resting places of Colonel Augustus Hazard , Orrin Thompson , Dr . Edwin Vail , Thomas Abbey , Martha Parsons , Paddy Green , and some of the Enfield residents who served in the military .
STATELINE WALKING TOUR ( Thursday ) NORTH THOMPSONVILLE / LONGMEADOW Fee $ 19- Jim Malley 2:30 to 4:30 p . m . May 29 ( Rain date June 5 ) No Surcharge This walking tour begins on State Street and heads north past Stickly Furniture and then over the Enfield Street bridge , and examining the 1950s construction of Interstate 91 . The walk continues past the Fairfield Inn , the former Friendly ’ s Restaurant , Steve ’ s Seafood , Jiggy ’ s , the former Silhouette and Terwillger ’ s hamburger stand , the former Abdow ’ s Big Boy Restaurant . We will discuss beginnings of the Stateline Potato Chip Company Inc ., 1642 Woodward-Saffrey Line dispute between Connecticut and Massachusetts , and how Connecticut relinquished land from Connecticut Avenue in Enfield to Nevins Avenue in Longmeadow .
