Q & A

David
Beauchesne , Executive Director of the Rhode Island Philharmonic
Explain your role as the executive director of the RI Philharmonic .
I serve as the CEO of the organization . I work with the board of directors , donors , staff and our orchestra and faculty members to refine our mission and programming , which is to further our collective goal to serve this community through music in meaningful and sustainable ways . I also work with my colleagues across Rhode Island to secure appropriate levels of public support for the arts .
What do you look forward to the most this upcoming 23 / 24 season ?
I ’ m looking forward to experiencing a lot of “ firsts ” this season . This includes working with guest conductors making their RI Philharmonic debut , hearing pieces and composers performed live for the first time , and welcoming soloists Randall Goosby , Zlatomir Fung , Tony Siqi Yun and Kelly Hall-Tompkins to our stage . I look forward to welcoming new audience members to the Vets . It ’ s been exciting to see a younger , more diverse audience take shape since the pandemic . I also look forward to welcoming new students to the East Providence and Westerly music school locations . Finally , I look forward to taking our new digital concert screen to locations around the state . It ’ s so important that we go into as many communities , neighborhoods and schools as possible to increase access to symphonic music and music education .
How is the search for RI Philharmonic ’ s next music director going ?
We ’ re fortunate to have attracted some incredible musicians to conduct the RI Philharmonic Orchestra in the previous and current season . The input from audience members , orchestra members , staff , students and faculty already indicate a high level of engagement . I ’ m confident that , together , we will choose an exceptional music director . 667 Waterman Ave ., East Providence , 248-7070 , Providence , riphil . org
