Poland is among the leading salt producers in Europe. The total production of vacuum and rock salt in recent years increased from about 1.2mn tons in 2007 to almost 2.0mn tons in 2011. The Polish salt market structure differs slightly from the rest of Europe: salt is used mostly in highway maintenance and for direct consumption, while less in the chemical industry.
