Soda Ash
Soda ash production and consumption, mn tons ? Ciech is the second-largest soda ash producer in Europe (in terms of 2011 sales revenue and volumes) and the only producer of soda ash in Poland. Soda ash is a chemical primarily used in the glass, detergent and chemicals industries. Ciech is also the leading supplier in the Polish domestic markets of soda ash, baking soda and vacuum salt, with 98%, 70% and 70% market shares in 2011, respectively. It also produces other chemicals used in the furniture, automotive, construction, food and consumer goods industries, and in agriculture. ? Based on data by IHS Chemical, Ciech estimates that the global capacitiy of soda ash was about 6566mn tons, and the global production and use in 2012 reached 53mn tons, which makes 80-82% use of global capacitiy, over half of them in Asia. The remaining potential was almost evenly divided between Europe and North America, which possessed comparable production power. ? The largest producers of soda ash in the world, each with production capacities of over 2.5mn tons per year are four companies: Solvay, Tata Chemicals, FMC and Shandong Haihua. These companies control almost 30% of global capabilities.
