The Eastern Florida F State College Foundation welcomed leaders from its past to celebrate its future. Showcasing the new Student Union on the Melbourne campus and the college’s new academic programs, the 75 former Foundation Board of Director and Board of Trustee members were invited to a celebratory lunch. The attendees toured the new Student Union and saw the unveiling of legacy pavers honoring their service. Attendees also heard college President Dr. Jim Richey describe EFSC’s continuing growth as the most dynamic in its history. “We have done all this while not raising tuition for seven straight years, reflecting our firm commitment to keeping a college education within financial reach,” said Richey. A team of leaders including Dick Beagley, Bernie Simpkins, Lee Solid, Ambika Palaniyandi, Dr. Dee Sibley, Jack Parker, and Delores Spearman helped organize the celebratory lunch. “This college is an essential part of this community and it’s amazing what is happening here. The Florida State University graduate, student athlete, and world-class sprinter told the audience about the injury that ended his dreams sending him spiraling to rock bottom. Clark used the same grit and determination that forged his athletic success – and that earlier helped him overcome academic problems in school – to achieve his goal of starting his own business. “It was up to me. I was the one who had to do it,” he said. “You’ve got to know who you are. You’ve got to define it, and when you do, you’ll do your best.” Now, Clark travels the nation as CEO of the Charles Clark International business consulting firm. He founded the Charles Clark What Matters Foundation to teach youth and young adults how to prepare for careers through education, fitness and health. He also created the Thrive Planning Method, which will turn your vision into attainable goals. Clark’s message about life: Have faith in yourself, especially during the most difficult times, and you will find success.
