Foundation Newsletter Page 3 DONOR SPOTLIGHT ur feature donor of the quarter is Marian Dionne. O She created the Guy Hinman and Dan Hughes Memorial Scholarship in honor of her late husband, Guy Hinman and son, Dan Hughes. The scholarship supports students at Eastern Florida State College who are pursuing an Associate in Arts Degree and planning to pursue a degree in math, math education or music at a four-year institution. “I created the scholarship to honor the lives and accomplishments of my late husband, Guy Hinman, and my son, Dan Hughes. Guy was a math professor on the Melbourne campus of EFSC for 26 years. He was passionate about education and his students. Dan was a 2001 graduate of Melbourne High School. He attended EFSC on a music scholarship while pursuing a degree in Engineering Technology,” she said. “As an adjunct instructor at EFSC, I have witnessed firsthand the need for financial aid. I wanted students in our local community to benefit from the scholarship. My desire was to see the generous spirit of my husband and son live on.” Guy Hinman and Marian Dionne Dan Hughes, Dionne’s son Thank you, Marian Dionne, for supporting student scholarships at Eastern Florida and being a member of our EFSC Foundation Family. RECIPIENT SPOTLIGHT uerty “Tasha” O’Connor is a Foundation Scholarship Recipient. She is a full-time, first generation college G student, a wife, and a mother of three children. Tasha is working on her prerequisites for nursing and hopes to start the Nursing Program at EFSC in spring 2019. “It’s a lot of work managing a home and taking 18 hours this semester. I am delighted and grateful to have a supportive family to cheer me on to do well in my classes and stay focused on my goals,” Tasha said. Her ultimate goal is to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, hopefully here at Eastern Florida. Tasha has long wanted to be a nurse but fear held her back from attending college. After her last child was born in 2013, she and her husband decided it was time to enroll. She started with one class and now she is full-time this semester. “I now know that my education is the vehicle that I need to pursue my happiness and to become a success story so I can inspire others to do the same,” she said. Guerty “Tasha” O’Connor Receiving the Patricia Kosinski Education Fund Scholarship allows Tasha the time to focus on her studies and also spend time with her husband and children. If Tasha could talk to Ms. Kosinski today, she would thank her for the opportunity to excel in her education. Tasha is another example of the wonderful students who benefit from scholarships from the Eastern Florida State College Foundation. 8 New Scholarships have been created so far this year to support our students!
