C
ur 2nd Annual Backyard BBQ Cook-off was held with the Collegiate
O
Veteran’s Society’s “Red, White & Wheels Car Show” on Saturday, Feb. 24,
on the Melbourne Campus. With over 1,000 guests in attendance, we raised
$61,000 for student and veteran scholarships.
Guests were treated to samples of pork and brisket from 18 Backyard BBQ
Cook-off Teams competing for cash prizes and bragging rights. Our Grand
Champion was Hodge Podge BBQ led by team captain Rick Hodge. First Place
in the Pork Category went to the team of Blowin’ Smoke & Kickin’ Ash, and First
Place in Brisket was a tie between Huff n’ Puff and Street Meat teams. Penny
Creek Band provided music and the Kids Zone was a favorite again this year for
children of all ages.
The Foundation is grateful to all the BBQ cook-off teams, event sponsors,
vendors and guests. A special thanks to our judges, EFSC College President Dr.
Jim Richey, Pat Algea, Michael Ayers, Dr. Larry Bishop, Pastor Corky Calhoun,
