November-December 2018 College Accomplishments Improving Digital Infrastructure Completed a number of projects that improved the college’s digital infrastructure for its essential role in meeting ever-increasing student, faculty and staff demands. (Student Enrollment, Diversity Initiatives, Employee Relations, Financial Management) Highlights: • Infrastructure upgrades were made to Banner 9x, the college-wide management system, providing additional security and a new user Interface. • Improvements made to student email, making it easier for students to access important information. • Provided on-going technical support for the new enrollment application process, including integration with other main systems. • Made upgrades to the 911 system to provide a better display of the location and notification process during an emergency, allowing a faster response time for first responders. • Created several new computer labs on the Palm Bay campus to support programs, including Computer Technologies and Cyber Security. • Provided another Wi-Fi upgrade, improving access to the wireless network that will also serve as a springboard for additional improvements in the coming years. •  The IT support desk answered and responded to more than 45,000 calls for assistance, while the Technical and Programming staff responded to over 17,000 requests to address complicated problems. 20 December 2018 Student Union Completed Completed construction of a new Student Union on the Melbourne campus on-time and on-budget, making it the vibrant center of student life and the next major project in the campus’ ongoing expansion. (Student Enrollment, Diversity Initiatives, Employee Relations, Financial Management, Trustee Relations, Community Awareness) Highlights: • The two-story glass structure serves as the front door to the campus and includes space for a variety of student services, government, clubs and activities. • There is a multi-purpose room to hold large student, college and community events, and a rooftop terrace. • There are landscaped plazas on both sides, tying the Student Union together with the Titan Field House and Science Building next door. • The project contains other major elements as well. They include: •  Titan Boulevard has been transformed into a grassy promenade. • More than 300 parking spaces have been added to the college’s main parking lot along with new lighting. • Three nearby buildings – the Dr. Joe Lee Smith Teaching Center, Titan Field House and Science Building – were resurfaced and repainted. •  The colors match those of the Student Union and other new buildings, creating a harmonious campus-wide look that will later include repainting all other campus buildings. • All the work is part of the Melbourne campus expansion that was announced in 2014 and is making excellent progress. • In 2015, a new Public Safety Institute opened that is home to a Law Enforcement Academy, Corrections Academy, EMT and 911 Operator training and studies in other criminal justice fields. • In 2017, a new Health Sciences Institute opened that houses 12 programs and contains specialized labs with the latest medical technology on par with the best such facilities in the nation.
