October 2018 College Accomplishments
High Faculty Achievement
The college’s faculty received a number of impressive
honors, demonstrating their knowledge and dedication
to helping students succeed inside and outside the
classroom. (Employee Relations)
Highlights:
• 30 faculty members received the Academic Discipline
Peer Award, which is given to the “best of the best”
in each discipline by their EFSC faculty colleagues.
•
Susan Houts, Associate Professor of Speech on
the Palm Bay Campus, was named Distinguished
Educator of the Year.
• Dr. Brian Maxwell, Assistant Professor of English on
the Melbourne Campus, earned the Excellence in
Mentoring Award.
• Sharon Evans, Lecturer of Psychology on the Palm
Bay Campus, was named Adjunct of the Year.
• Ted Hartselle, Engineering Instructor on the Cocoa
Campus, was given a Lifetime Achievement Award
from the National Space Club Florida Committee for
his NASA space shuttle career.

• Faculty members also presented at conferences in
a range of fields and earned additional advanced
degrees.
King Center Shines
The King Center for the Performing Arts completed one
of the most successful seasons in its 31-year history,
showing its vitality as a cultural center along the Space
Coast. (Financial Management, Trustee Relations,
Community Awareness)
Highlights:
• More than 123,000 patrons attended 156
performances in a wide range of the arts, including
music, comedy, drama and dance.
• The performances garnered $3.8 million in ticket
sales.
• The success is attributed to a targeted marketing
strategy that matched performers with the cultural
tastes of Space Coast residents.
• The King Center’s endowment rose to $7.8 million,
an 8.5 percent increase from the previous year.
