October 2018 College Accomplishments October 2018 Record Student Internships A record number of students completed internships through the Career Planning and Development Center, gaining valuable experience and employment opportunities as they prepare to enter the workforce. (Student Enrollment, Diversity Initiatives, Financial Management, Community Awareness) Highlights: • Nearly 200 students completed internships, a 32 percent increase over 2017. • The companies and governmental entities providing internships included Harris Corp., Health First, Biotest Plasma Center, City of Cocoa, Florida Department of Health and Circles of Care. • A series of job fairs also drew 360 students with 60 companies represented, connecting students with excellent employment opportunities. • The companies included Lockheed Martin, Embraer, Disney, Space Coast Credit Union and Walmart. • In all, 69,300 students have received Career Center services since the program was started in 2011 in one of the first official acts of then-Interim college President Dr. Jim Richey. Student Recruitment Success The Student Recruitment Office accelerated its work to enroll students at EFSC with a range of efforts targeting everyone from teenagers in high school to middle-age professionals in the workforce. (Student Enrollment, Diversity Initiatives, Financial Management, Community Awareness) • Strategically targeted recruitment efforts resulted in record-breaking responses and attendance for many academic programs. • The programs included RN to BSN information sessions targeting prior EFSC graduates; Law Enforcement Officer’s “Commitment Day”; Aviation Center Open House at Melbourne International Airport; and a Bachelor’s Degree Expo targeting prior EFSC graduates. •  Held eight Open House events with nearly 500 prospective students and their guests across four campuses featuring programs such as Engineering Technology, Computer Technologies, Earth Sciences, Health Sciences and the Public Safety Institute. • Implemented a “college navigation” program to work with high schools to set up one-on-one sessions for seniors that have indicated an interest in enrolling in EFSC. • Hosted five Parent Preview Nights sessions for parents interested in dual enrollment for their students with nearly 600 people attending. • More than 1,000 students and guests attended 57 regularly scheduled campus tours, including 22 large field trip tours that consisted of multiple high schools. • Held three Dare to Finish workshops to recruit former EFSC students to the classroom by providing hands- on application and financial aid help. Highlights: • Go Higher, Get Accepted, the College’s outreach campaign to Brevard County high schools, reached a new record in visiting 19 schools that resulted in 772 student applications received. • Created an improved admissions application experience that is more user friendly, interactive and personalized. • The 3rd annual College for a Day event gave high school seniors the opportunity to get up close and personal with their local EFSC campus, with 360 seniors from 19 schools attending. 17
