Significant Tutoring Success
The Core Scholar program continued growing with
more students using tutoring services that resulted
in notably higher achievement rates in science, math
and other courses. (Student Enrollment, Diversity
Initiatives)
Highlights:
• About 2,100 students participated in some portion
of the program, the most since it began.
• The program is appealing to our diverse student
body, with participation rates of African-American
students making up 18 percent of the program.
• More than 22,000 hours of tutoring have occurred
with significant increases in course success rates
with participating students.
• Some examples include the following:
• In General Biology, success rates have averaged
around 80 percent for all students but for students
attending tutoring sessions the average is 90-95
percent.
• In Microcomputer Applications, the jump is equally
dramatic with the average 73 percent success rate
rising to 90 percent.
• In math, the average success rate of 53 percent
climbed to 75 percent.
• The program has also had more than 1,200 students
attend soft skills workshops on study skills, time
management and organizational skills.
