August 2018 College Accomplishments August 2018 New UFF Contract Indian River Roundtable The college successfully negotiated a new three-year collective bargaining agreement with the United Faculty of Florida Brevard Chapter for 2018-21. (Employee Relations, Financial Management, Trustee Relations) At the invitation of college President Dr. Jim Richey, the campaign for Florida governor came to the college in a roundtable discussion with then-candidate and now Gov. Ron DeSantis on severe problems facing the pollution- damaged Indian River Lagoon. (Community Awareness) Highlights: • The basic annual faculty salary will increase $1,000 in 2018-19; $1,250 in 2019-20; and $1,500 in 2020-21. • The salary for new faculty hired will increase the same amounts. • UFF members ratified the contract 187 to 18. • The new agreement recognizes the professionalism and dedication of EFSC faculty. • It ensures students will continue benefiting from the knowledge and personalized instruction that faculty bring to the classroom. • This is the third, three-year contract successfully negotiated with the UFF under the leadership of Dr. Jim Richey since he became college president in 2012. Fall Term Enrollment The Fall Term brought nearly 15,700 students to the college, with solid enrollment numbers in all of our key program areas. (Student Enrollment, Diversity Initiatives, Employee Relations, Financial Management, Trustee Relations, Community Awareness) Highlights: • Nearly 12,500 students enrolled in Associate in Arts and Associate in Science Degree programs, a number consistent with Fall Term 2017. • 1,725 students were enrolled in Bachelor Degree programs, a 14.2 percent increase from 2017. •  Bachelor’s Degree enrollment breakdowns: Organizational Management, 1,093; Computer Technology, 296; Applied Health Science, 260; Registered Nursing, 65; Major Not Declared, 6. • 7,115 students were enrolled in online courses, a 6.8 percent increase from 2017. • 1,668 students were enrolled in Bachelor Degree online courses, a 14 percent increase from 2017. • 1,180 were enrolled in our College Certificate and related programs. 14 Highlights: • About 15 experts participated in the discussion on the Melbourne campus, including some of the nation’s top scientists on the Lagoon who detailed action needed to save the estuary. • The presenters included experts from the National Estuary Program, Harbour Branch Oceanographic Institute, Ocean Research & Conservation Association, Florida Land Council, Florida Atlantic University and Florida Tech. • Other presenters represented the Brevard County Office of Tourism, Brevard County Realtors, Brevard County Fishing Guides and the City of Satellite Beach. • The discussion received extensive media coverage from Central Florida TV stations, Florida Today and other news organizations, all noting the college’s role in hosting the session. Helping Needy Titans Provosts started the Titans 2 Titans program on all four campuses to offer students in need access to a food pantry and clothes they can wear for professional and career advancement. (Student Enrollment, Diversity Initiatives, Employee Relations) Highlights: • The program relies on donations from students, faculty, and staff and follows a pilot project on the Titusville Campus that showed EFSC has students who need and appreciate such assistance. • Donations include non-perishable food and a range of toiletries, paper towels and similar items. • Professional clothing includes business suits for men and women, dress slacks for men and women, dress shirts and skirts, ties, briefcases, portfolios and dress shoes. • The program is run by the Student Government Association on each campus.
