July 2018 College Accomplishments Summer Term Enrollment Student-Athlete Success The Summer Term saw strong enrollment driven by the popularity of Bachelor’s Degree and online learning programs. (Student Enrollment, Diversity Initiatives, Financial Management, Trustee Relations) EFSC student-athletes excelled in the classroom in 2018 as the Florida College System Activities Association and NJCAA named a total 77 Titans to their All-Academic teams. (Student Enrollment, Diversity Initiatives) Highlights: Highlights: • More than 8,300 students enrolled in the Summer Term, a 3.3 percent increase from 2017. • Nearly 950 students enrolled in Bachelor Degree programs, a 47.7 percent increase from 2017. • Nearly 4,500 students enrolled in online courses, a 13.3 percent increase from 2017. • Nearly 5,000 students enrolled in Associate Degree courses, a 1.7 percent increase from 2017. • In the FCSAA, 53 student-athletes all had grade point averages over 3.30 and two players finished with 4.0. • Overall, all 11 EFSC teams had at least two players make the FCSAA All-Academic team with the women’s basketball and women’s soccer teams each having seven players make the team. • The men’s tennis, volleyball and baseball teams each had six players make the team. • In the NJCAA, four Titans made the All-Academic First Team with 4.0 grade point averages. • Overall, the NJCAA recognized 24 Titan athletes for their work in the classroom, finishing the school year with a 3.6 grade point average or better. • The men’s golf and women’s volleyball teams led the way with four players each making the team. Election 2018 Forums EFSC partnered with Florida Today to host a series of candidate forums from July through October that provided the public a front row seat on key races and major issues in the 2018 elections. (Community Awareness) Highlights: • The sessions were held at the Simpkins Fine Arts Center on the Cocoa Campus, broadcast live on WEFS-TV and livestreamed on floridatoday.com. • Several hundred people attended the forums and thousands watched on TV. • The forums featured about 20 candidates in 10 races for the Brevard County Commission, Brevard County School Board, Florida Legislature and U.S. Congress. • Joining the college and Florida Today as co-sponsors was the Space Coast League of Women Voters. • The forums continued a partnership between the college, Florida Today and community groups that began in 2004, bringing hundreds of candidates to EFSC to discuss local, state and national issues. • EFSC has also opened its doors to presidential campaigns on four occasions. • In 2008, then-Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain both campaigned at the college during their race for the White House. • In 2012, former President Bill Clinton and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich also brought the presidential contest to the college. 13
