News From Africa April 2014 Poverty is a complex phenomenon that refers to inadequacy of resources and deprivation of choices that would enable people to enjoy decent living conditions. + I. Economic Causes of Poverty Unemployment There is high unemployment rate particularly among youth. African population is made up of about 65 % youth and most of this population is unemployed due to:  Poor education system-the education structure used in Africa is not beneficial to the student. Graduates are not equip for available jobs  Lack of training facilities-no vocational training facilities  Bad leadership-Selfish and corrupt attitude of individuals in power Unemployment results to increase in crime rates, children being denied basic necessities of life, and lost sense of dignity.
