Weekly Lake Water Testing Well Underway
W
e have a great group of concerned residents working to keep Eagle Lake a cleaner lake. ELIA’s active water quality group performs a variety of regular tests. The weekly Secchi test shows the clarity of the lake water at certain depths. The clarity in May was 22 inches, but in the last test on August 8, it was only 8.5 inches. Clarity decreases as the summer progresses. Each month a chlorophyll, dissolved oxygen and temperature test are performed. The results can be alarming. Once a week, two to five members navigate the lake, working Monday through Friday between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. The team shares laughs and many points of interest concerning the lake.“This reminds me of science class” is often heard. This is just a really good thing being done to help protect our lake and its future. Coming soon is the Exotic Plant Watch Expedition, sometime during August 15 and August 23. It is said to be a bit messy but really interesting and fun. Please come join us and learn about what is beneath the waters of Eagle Lake. If you are interested in joining the water qualitytesting group or would like to venture out on an Exotic Plant Watch Expedition, please contact

e have only two ads in our newsletter this year: Eagle Lake Marine and Service Printers. We are providing them gratis as these businesses have been incredibly generous with services and support to ELIA for years. Whether they print or sell the Poker Run tickets, help launch and pull out firework barges or print our newsletter and directory, they are key to our basic operations. We are very grateful for their support and generosity. Cass County Road Commission http://www.casscoroad.com 269-445-8611 Cass County Michigan Government http://www.casscountymi.org/
