Mat Champs: Enfield High Wrestlers Make History Again in the New Year
With all of this in mind, senior year can be stressful, but it also offers many opportunities. Every senior has a unique journey, and the decisions made now can shape the future. That is why exploring all options is important. Communication is key, and students should not hesitate to talk with mentors, family, friends, or counselors for guidance. At the same time, it is important to take a breath and not stress too much.
Just as these experiences have shaped Ethan and Leani’ s post-graduation plans, they can shape yours as well.

ENFIELD— Enfield High wrestling has a strong history, both past and present. While the team may not always be the greatest of all time, it continues to build a legacy in meaningful ways that inspire current and future students.
Entering the new year, the team has only seven wins but has already competed in two events that worked in their favor. The team lost a league match on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, against the Platt Panthers, starting the season 0 – 1.
Raidon Yang, a senior on the team, explained some of the challenges they face:“ One of the challenges we all agree on is that we don’ t always get to train with our school coaches. This makes it difficult to adjust to the different terms and expressions used by outside coaches.” While different wording can create confusion, it can also motivate wrestlers to improve.
Yang added,“ This can have a negative impact, but it also allows us to try new moves and bond more. It gives us extra work and helps us improve overall.”
Despite these challenges, the team continues to work hard and adapt. In the current standings, Enfield High is part of two competitions within the CSC. The first is North Central Connecticut wrestling, which includes 13 schools for the 2025 – 26 season. The second is the Connecticut Class LL division. Even if the team does not place at the top, they continue to compete and give their best effort.
As 2026 begins, several achievements are already adding to the team’ s history. One senior wrestler, Ares Bourque, recently reached 100 varsity wins. This milestone brought excitement to the team and was celebrated during the Ben Aleck’ s Duals tournament on January 17, 2026. Although the team’ s result( 44 – 28) may have been disappointing, they still celebrated Bourque’ s accomplishment. Earlier in the month, on January 4, 2026, he also earned a fourth-place medal at a tournament at Bristol Central.
