Despite the stress that comes with senior year, many seniors find support through their friends and teachers, who help motivate them throughout the year.
Some advice from Ethan for underclassmen is“ to not stress it out. It is not as serious as people say. I am not stressed right now, and I take honors and AP classes.” This advice can help ease younger students’ worries about senior year and help them look forward to it.
Many seniors must also consider their post-graduation options. While many choose the traditional path of a four-year university and a bachelor’ s degree, others explore gap years or the military. Ethan, for instance, has set his sights on trade school, specifically in the HVAC( heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) industry. This path suits individuals who prefer hands-on work. His decision stems from his cousin and father, who both work in trades and influenced his choice. Family can be a valuable resource when choosing a path in life— not only because they know your strengths, but also because they can provide opportunities to learn new skills.
High school also helps students develop social and emotional skills. Ethan expressed how high school improved his communication skills and how his friends and teachers helped him get through these four years. While it can be difficult to let go of these experiences, growing in a supportive environment teaches patience and tolerance.
For example, Leani, who works in fast food, has dealt with disrespectful customers. She has learned not to let it affect her emotionally, showing the patience she has developed through her experiences with parents, teachers, friends, and others throughout high school.
