Everyone has a Garry story ! I have so many Garry stories , from us crash landing a helicopter in a snake infested swap to just sitting and listening in amazement to his plans for his next big project . To be Garry ’ s friend was to be spoilt and introduced to experiences most people could never expect to have , flying in helicopters and private jets , days out on luxury boats , driving beautiful cars , evenings in super boxes with family and friends and some of the longest lunches enjoying to many sauvignon blancs . In more recent years , for me it was just to share some time with him . I found him so inspirational he was a creator , a builder of businesses , friendships , and opportunity . He befriended everyone and didn ’ t care who you were or what you had . Garry made me and many others feel special , his generosity was overwhelming . I never asked him of anything material , just his time . He helped me through some difficult periods in my life and to me , that was the most precious thing he ever gave me . I think I was there for him sometimes , too . Garry said to me once after a success in one of his businesses which I have never forgotten and I think is part of his life story , “ I am just a young bloke trying to make a buck on the way through ”. I could see that Garry loved his family more than anything in this world . I admired how much he adored Lisa and how proud he was of his children and grandchildren . With all his health challenges he was driven , determined , full of optimism and dreams for his family ’ s future . Garry became a mentor to me , he taught me a lot about business and life , and it was an honour and privilege to work alongside him . Garry drew people in with his quirky colourful ways , his kindness , generosity and fascinating conversations and stories . He took a great interest in my life , and we had a unique friendship that I will cherish . You did it your way , Garry , and have left your mark just as you wished . You will be greatly missed .
