During the Good Friday appeal in 2015 , 3 days before Parker received his heart , we were enjoying the only time we ’ d had Parker out of his room for days because he ’ d been so unwell . We were approached by a man who told us he didn ’ t want to know our story just how we were doing and if he could help in any way . We were in struggle town at that time , and so he handed us a cheque and a business card . Whilst Parker rested in his ICU room , we felt the need to show this wonderful man what he ’ d helped do for us , so we typed out an email ! This man ’ s name was Garry Dumbrell . He wrote back telling us he ’ d been told the very day of Parker ’ s transplant that he was in remission from the cancer he ’ d been fighting for years . He felt what he ’ d done for Parker had been his good luck charm . We kept in touch , and he has done a lot for us over the past 6 years . Even this year when , he asked me what Parker ’ s biggest wish in the world was for his birthday … He mailed the Lego that Parker had wished for , and we sat for 3 hours building it to send Garry a photo of the happiest boy ! Sadly , we received the news that Garry passed away on Friday . We are devastated and can only be thankful that Parker ’ s illness led us to meet such a kind-hearted man ! Rest easy Jack . Sending all our love to your family . With so much love , your little mate , Parker Bean and family
