Appliances and Lighting M7.1. High-Efficacy Lighting (2 Points)
Install high-efficacy lighting for all permanently installed luminaries in the home and in all common areas of a multifamily home. High-efficacy lighting must meet the guidelines in the following table1: Lamp Watts ?5 5-15 15-40 ? 40 Minimum Efficacy, in Lumens per Watt ? 30 ? 40 ? 50 ? 60
If efficacy is not listed on the manufacturer’s technical documentation, calculate it by dividing the bulb lumens by the bulb watts. M7.2. Lighting System Designed to IESNA Footcandle Standards or Designed by Lighting Consultant (2 Points) To receive credit for this measure, the builder must do one of the following: ? Install a lighting system that is layered to deliver appropriate ambient, task, and accent lighting that meets the needs of each space in the home. The footcandle measurements for each of these lighting layers must meet the suggested footcandle measurements suggested in the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) handbook. Hire a certified lighting consultant to design the lighting system, including bulb wattage choices and lighting fixture placement, to eliminate excess lighting and control glare. Many utilities have lighting experts on staff to evaluate plans or physically evaluate spaces. Footcandle measurements for each of these lighting layers must meet the suggested footcandle measurements in the IESNA handbook.

VERIFICATION Measure M7.1 Field Verification: The Rater must complete field compliance verification, and take representative photos. Documentation: The Rater must collect documentation specifying the efficacy of the lighting from the builder. Measure M7.2 Documentation: The Rater must collect an Accountability Form from the lighting consultant or other appropriate expert, and the plan from the lighting consultant. INTENT To reduce energy consumption and energy costs associated with lighting. To contribute to environmental benefits, such as a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
