What more could fashion retailers do on a daily basis to improve their recycling procedures? -Use less plastic wrapping on shipping -Don't offer free plastic bags to customers. Only stock clothes which are not heavily packaged. Offer recycling facilities for old clothes. -I have no idea what they currently do. -Use recycled material for bags -like Clinton cards are doing. Use paper bags like primary do. -Ensure they have recycling bins in the shop and ensure all staff are aware of procedures. -Start by using waste companies w hich will actually recycle thw waste they put on the curb side for collection. Secondly, ensure deliverys are not inefficent on thw use of plastic and tissues. Thirdly ensure that all plastics and pqckqging are recyclable - black plastic usually cant be recycled but it is continually used throughout retail (including food). It would mqke such a difference if this was recyclable. -Only use recyclable packaging -Unsure -Not use plastic bags at all use paper recyclable ones, not use plastic hangers and not leave their lights on all night , use energy saving bulbs -Make sure all cardboard such as shoe boxes are recycled and not just thrown away. Use reusable bags or biodegradable bags like primark do. Use recycled materials to make bags and clothes. -I think an awful lot of waste is created on a daily basis, especially by fashion retailers that send out online orders. They will often arrive in a box at least twice the size it needs to be. Just by reducing the size of packaging would make a big difference in my opinion. -Bring back pins in shirt packaging instead of plastic clips. Pins have many secondary uses. -Use less packaging when sending stock out from factory to store . -Stop putting unnecessary plastic stickers/tags on things. Give paper bags like the primark ones -Reduce packaging -Making people more aware of what recycling can do to help and what damage can be done it we don’t do this. Also exactly how each product/packaging should be recycled properly and effectively -Im not sure of the current recycling done by retailers, but recycling has to be a priority as well as ensuring plastic bags are no longer given out, even if the consumer is willing to pay. Ban them altogether! -A move to digitised ‘paperwork’ inc receipts would help. Or print on recycled material. Shop fittings could definitely be made from recycled materials. -Provide recycling sites in stores.. -Unnecessary tiny plastic tags to hold things just to make things look nice on the hanger could be disposed of. Random paper layer in clothing fully wrapped in plastic a waste. Paper bags like Fatface great idea for taking garments home as they can be recycled more easily or him completed. -Use less packaging. -Offer a service whereby the consumer can get rewards for recycling like a club card etc or they could make consumers more conscious thorough better use of marketing and branding -Use recycled materials -Make it compulsory to recycle -make more affordable recycled clothing - make it more central in advertisement -Recycle delivery boxes. Use energy saving light bulbs. -Unsold items to be given to Oxfam etc and if they still remain unsold, they can be sent to be cut up to fill cushions. -Use recyclable packaging and reduce marketing material -Be logical about the way they package their stock. There is obviously a fine line between being environmentally friendly and causing a damage risk to your stock in transit, however something has to give. http://www. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3330193/Now-really-does-cost-packet-Couple-ordered-24-piece-dinner-setTesco-delivered-48-separate-boxes-five-items-arrived-smashed.html Again, not specifically a fashion company, but an appropriate example of ridiculous processes within a retailer. -They should ensure that their products are recyclable and give information to consumers about how to appropriately recycle their products. -Unused receipts, labels, paperwork recycled. That’s all I can think of. XXII
