VACATION AND TRAVEL

Arlington National Cemetery at 1 Memorial Ave in the city of Arlington, which I have visited. You will see veterans of every American war from the Revolutionary War to the country's most recent conflicts are buried at Arlington, which was officially declared a military cemetery in 1864. Among the more than 260,000 dead are three unidentified service members, buried at the Tomb of the Unknowns, and John F. Kennedy, whose gravesite is marked by an eternal flame. Parking is only $2.00 an hour, but this place is FREE to enter with many things to do there like the Tomb of the Unknowns with the changing of the guard, Monuments & Memorials, Famous Gravesites, Tour Arlington House (former home of Robert E. Lee and his family located on a hill inside the cemetery) which I toured for FREE when I was there during the fall season, special events and more. See website!

You will find that not all Civil War battlefield attractions are the same. Virginia has more battlefield attractions than all other states have. This next one I have been to more than once, and that is Manassas Battlefield at 6511 Sudley Rd in

in the city of Manassas. Begin your visit to the park at the Henry Hill Visitor Center. Here, you can pick up a park brochure, or trail guide, or learn about the daily schedule of interpretive programs. A museum on site features artifacts related to the First and Second Battles of Manassas as well as a 6-minute electronic map of the troop movements of the First Battle. This is a very nice FREE attraction!
