Three Ladies and A Health Store
Article by Dr. Tunishai Ford
The very first time I stepped into Total Health Foods was when the store was located in Southgate. I was looking for a particular food product because I was on a special diet. I called around to all of the local health food stores and they did not carry what I was looking for. When I got around to calling Total Health Foods, these ladies told me they had the product in stock. I was elated and rushed right over to pick it up. That was my last time going to that store in Southgate.
One day when I was walking my dog on Biddle Street in Wyandotte, Michigan, I saw a health food store and I decided to go in, not realizing that it was the same store I had visited several years prior in Southgate. I was so impressed; in fact they had both a front and back entrance. I remember looking around and seeing so many wonderful products and it smelled good too. At the time what was so
appealing were their oils and scented candles. I also saw a lot of natural beauty products, supplements, and refrigerated foods. This was a nice place to visit when I came to Wyandotte, but I wanted to learn more about the store and the ladies behinds its success.
Before I had the opportunity to find out who was running the business, I discovered that they had expanded again and this time with a deli and market to add to its appeal. When I started our on-line magazine, I decided to ask the owners, Kathleen Gunther, Annette & Janette Crossman (who are identical twins), if I could feature their story in our magazine. They allowed me to come and get the full scoop behind their passion and I am honored to be able to share it with you.
