cost. If you wish to save on the parking fee, then park away from the place where there is ample free parking or take the bus that drops you off near the front entrance.

This next attraction is very historic in nature. I’ve been yhere more than once, and that is the “Vandalia State House.” This was Illinois state capitol building from 1836-1839, being its 4th state house

located south in the middle of the state, in the city of Vandalia. This is a very nice 30-minute FREE stop with a tour docent available to give you the history of this magnificent looking building and its interior, which looks like it belongs in Washington DC. While you are there stroll around the historic city!

At this Historic Statehouse, Abraham Lincoln served in the House of Representatives where he started his political career, before moving on to the new Capitol building in Springfield, which is North of there. You will see the Senate Chamber, the Supreme Court, House of Representatives and more. See web site for hours and other information. Lastly, I found even though these historic attractions are FREE, they will accept donations.

The next attractions which are related to Abraham Lincoln are the “5th and 6th State Houses,” both FREE of charge, and both are located in the city of Springfield. Nearby is the “Oakridge Cemetery” where you can see the final
