FREE Attractions in the State of Illinois

VACATION AND TRAVEL

These next attractions I’ve seen on different trips, since I needed to pass through the state of Illinois to get to other states to vacation. While I was there, I found a lot of FREE attractions. I saw some of them as a rest stop, while others I planned to see with an overnight stay in the general area.

This first attraction is located in the city of Chicago is called, “Chicago

Greeter’s,” that’s located at 77 E. Randolph Street at the visitor center. Just walk in, they offer one-hour FREE walkingtours of Downtown Chicago. These are all done by 200 volunteers! If you wish more

than one hour, then you need to call 10 business days in advance or register online to reserve a spot, which still makes it FREE.

You can choose 1 of 25 neighborhoods having 40 different interests to see. This tour takes 4-6 hours with up to 6 guests. Also, they have a staff that speaks at least 12 languages. You customize what your interests are and they will take you there to see it. For example: If you want to see 1930’s Chicago during the Al Capone era, you will be shown every landmark related to that interest throughout the city. Or maybe you may want to see Chinatown, or the skyscrapers interiors, or the waterfront area, plus many others I could list. There is something there for everyone! Now, if any of these tours involves taking a bus, train, water taxi or just walking, there is no cost to you, everything is FREE. Go to ChicagoGreeter.com to register. This is a really great experience to be a part of, and it’s FREE!

Now, while you are in Chicago go over to the “Lincoln Park Zoo,” which is FREE of charge, open 365 days a year. Some parking comes with a fee, while there is other parking in the area which is FREE of
