“Meteorological spring” offi cially began March 20 with the
vernal equinox, when daytime and nighttime are nearly
equally balanced. Arboretum visitors in April − depending
on the prevailing weather − will be greeted with pleasant sur-
prises in the wildfl ower garden, rock garden and other wood-
ed areas, as ephemeral wildfl owers appear amid the melting
snow and leaf debris.
