1. Cluj-Napoca
The Cluj-Napoca city is situated in the heart of Transylvania, being the seat
of the County with the same name. It was a Dacian settlement in the 2nd
century A.D, then a Roman settlement and it was named Napoca. The name
“Cluj” comes from the word “clus” which means “close” in Latin, and it refers
to the hills that surround the city. It is also known as Klausenburg to the
Germans and Kolozsvar to the Hungarians.
There are a lot of attractions that make this city appealing. Some of them are
the Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania, the Ethnographic Park “Romulus
Vuia” (that offers the tourists the opportunity to see the traditional way of
living), the Banffy Castle, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Botanical Garden,
the Saint Michael Church, the Tailors’ Bastion, the Central Park, the Pharmacy
Museum, the Palace of Justice, Matias Corvin’s statue, and many others.
