More than 40 top chefs came together March 3 to help present the Table for Ten culinary extravaganza at the Renaissance Newport Beach hotel . During the evening , each chef prepares masterful dinners tableside for 10 guests . In total , 280 attendees took part in the black-tie optional event to support “ lifechanging financial grants ” for culinary arts students at Mission Viejo ’ s Saddleback College . The Pascal Culinary Arts Scholarship Program provides funds to aspiring chefs who show a financial need and who meet the GPA criteria . Honorary Chef Kyung Carroll , director of culinary operations at The Resort at Pelican Hill , was among those presiding over dinner and the festive cocktail reception . NAPA IN NEWPORT
Locals once again raised a glass to those in need at the 10th annual Napa in Newport event April 20 at Pendry Newport Beach . Attendees helped raise more than $ 1.35 million to support CureDuchenne , a Newport-based nonprofit seeking a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy . “ With the significant funds raised at Napa in Newport , we ’ ve made strategic investments in promising research that has significantly driven scientific progress ,” said Debra Miller , founder and CEO of CureDuchenne . “ There is more hope and progress toward a cure than ever before .” Those in attendance were able to sample a magnificent array of wine from nearly 30 vintners , including this year ’ s vintner chair , Alpha Omega winery , as well as a gourmet meal curated by Charles Phan , executive chef and founder of San Francisco ’ s Slanted Door . Also during the event , Susan Finazzo , whose two sons have Duchenne and participated in a gene therapy clinical trial , spoke about the need to offer treatments for more individuals with this debilitating disease . “ I just want my boys to be able to live long enough to enjoy what life is ,” Finazzo said . “ I want them to have enough time to fall in love , maybe get married , or maybe experience the joy of becoming parents themselves .” ( cureduchenne . org ) — C .
