GENTLEMEN ’ S HABERDASHERY
A record-breaking $ 660,000 was raised at the 42nd annual Gentlemen ’ s Haberdashery event April 25 at Balboa Bay Resort . Nearly 400 supporters attended the fundraiser for the Heart of Jesus Retreat Center in Santa Ana . The longrunning event features a cocktail hour followed by a seated luncheon and fashion show with prominent executives and leaders modeling a full range of menswear from suits to casual clothing and beachwear ; apparel was supplied by Garys store and brands such as TravisMathew , J . Hilburn , Toes on the Nose and Wildfire Mercantile . Also during the event , children from the Sacred Heart Kids ’ Club sang for attendees . Owned and operated by the Sisters of the Society Devoted to the Sacred Heart , the Heart of Jesus Retreat Center provides religious and integrity formation and avenues of faith development for children , youth , adults and families . The center — with a chapel , conference rooms , basketball and volleyball courts , kitchens and dining areas — welcomes more than 12,000 attendees each year from local parishes , schools and more . DOLLED UP
Nearly $ 50,000 was raised at the Southern California Hospice Foundation ’ s second annual Dolled Up luncheon May 1 at The Pacific Club in Newport Beach to benefit the Costa Mesa organization ’ s Heavenly Home for those with terminal illnesses ; funds will help cover the cost of care for residents struggling financially . More than 100 supporters attended the event , which featured a Champagne reception , silent auction , lunch and women-owned businesses , who set up booths selling everything from skin care lines to candles and jewelry . Attendees were also invited to leave a voice message on a nostalgic pink rotary phone for Heavenly Home residents to enjoy later . Keynote speaker Teri Hausman Brusco of the Hausman Family Foundation shared her family ’ s touching story about gathering to say a final goodbye to her grandmother as she passed away . She emphasized the importance of hospice care and its impact on families , who don ’ t always have the chance for such meaningful final moments with loved ones . The luncheon also honored hospice patient Archie Cachola , a former doctor at CHOC , who has lived for more than a year at Heavenly Home , which opened in 2023 as OC ’ s first nonprofit end-of-life care facility .
