fantastic place to run or cycle. Passing through some of the loveliest parts of the city, this walk could take you all day as it takes you through Roseburn, Dean Village and Stockbridge that are all filled with their own unique histories.

If you’re not a fan of the quieter side of Edinburgh but still like exploring places with history, then Edinburgh’s royal mile may be the place for you. Starting from the castle and ending at Hollyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament building, this portion of the city has lots to offer whether you are a local or from slightly further afield. A variety of attractions including shops, restaurants, museums, and tours await you and during the month of August, is transformed into the focal point of the

Edinburgh Fringe Festival (see pages 16-17).

If walking, exploring and taking pictures are not your cup of tea and you’re more interested in a bit of retail therapy, Princes Street will be perfect for you. Containing some of Edinburgh’s most famous shops and a number of newer well known high street brands, there’s something for everyone. In close proximity to this main thoroughfare of shopping, George Street can also be found with its trendier shops, bars and clubs. For the more alternative shopper, there’s Cockburn Street that offers more independent boutiques and wonderful hidden gems. Edinburgh really does have something for everyone. PH
