The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest art festival in the world, taking place every year for 25 days on August, in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city.
The story of the festival begins 65 years ago, in 1947, when eight theatre groups turned up uninvited to perform at the Edinburgh International Festival, with the initiative to celebrate and enrich European cultural life in the wake of the Second
World War. At that moment the group was not part of the official program, but even so they didn’t stop, they went ahead and staged their shows anyway. Since then, year after year more and more performers followed their example and so in 1959 the Festival Fringe Society was created in the response to the success of this growing trend.
Every year, thousands of performers and creative souls are coming from all around the world to reveal their talents and entertain the audience in every art form imaginable.
