“There are all kinds of little lakes in the area
that we like to fish that have fantastic action
on them, but when we fish these lakes we
encourage people to release the fish they catch
to keep it that way,” says Belgum. “If they want to
keep some of the fish they catch, we’ll take them
to a different lake.”
Blasing agrees that it’s important to protect the
resource, but isn’t quite as strict as Belgum. “I
think it’s absolutely okay to keep enough fish
for a meal, even on the little lakes,” he says, “but
I always encourage people to throw the rest
back.”

August are the best times of year to fish in
Central Minnesota, but Sherree Wicktor, owner

trips all the way from ice out, which is typically
at the end of April, through February.
“As soon as the ice is off the lake, they will start
crappie fishing,” says Wicktor. “Lots of people
like to crappie fish. Lots of action. Lots of
entertainment. Once the season gets underway,
they will start fishing walleye, Northerns, bass,
crappies, perch, pretty much anything you want
to fish.”

While having a guide along on the trip is
perhaps the best way to guarantee you will
