Egg and The Swan, Arne Jacobsen, became one of the best known and respected Danish designers of the 20th century. His designs are elegant, stylish and comfortable at the same time. You will most likely see the chairs placed in an office, lobby or airport settings. Hans J. Wegner also influenced Danish design of furniture by producing functional and comfortable chairs, which you still see all over Denmark today. During his lifetime, Hans J. Wegener designed more than 500 chairs – many of which are considered master- pieces and true classics of Danish Design. However, Danish design does not only involve furniture and chairs. It is also highly regarded for products like the famous PH Lamp, which diffuses soft light throughout the room. The lamp was designed by Poul Henningsen, who took Danish lightning design to the global stage. The design of PH lamps date back to the 1950s, but they are still characterized as modern and can be found in many Danish homes. Georg Jensen was a Danish silversmith who started out making elegant cutlery. By creating simple pieces with smooth lines his design has become world famous and is regarded as one of the greatest examples of Danish designers within cutlery, bowls, candlesticks and jewellery. His designs continue to sell across the globe. Danish design in India The residence of the Danish Ambassador to India is a perfect epitome of Danish design. It is home to many classic pieces, which define elegance, functionality and timeless design. Among the Danish designs decorating the residence are classics by Finn Juhl, Hans J. Wegner and Le Klint accompanied by the more modern designs of Hay, Kasper Salto and Montana. Since 1972, Danish Ambassadors to India have been living in the Bungalow on Amrita Shergill Marg, next to the famous Lodhi Garden in New Delhi.
