Egg and The Swan, Arne Jacobsen, became one of the best
known and respected Danish designers of the 20th century.
His designs are elegant, stylish and comfortable at the same
time. You will most likely see the chairs placed in an office,
lobby or airport settings. Hans J. Wegner also influenced
Danish design of furniture by producing functional and
comfortable chairs, which you still see all over Denmark
today. During his lifetime, Hans J. Wegener designed more
than 500 chairs – many of which are considered master-
pieces and true classics of Danish Design.
However, Danish design does not only involve furniture
and chairs. It is also highly regarded for products like the
famous PH Lamp, which diffuses soft light throughout
the room. The lamp was designed by Poul Henningsen,
who took Danish lightning design to the global stage. The
design of PH lamps date back to the 1950s, but they are still
characterized as modern and can be found in many Danish
homes. Georg Jensen was a Danish silversmith who started
out making elegant cutlery. By creating simple pieces
with smooth lines his design has become world famous
and is regarded as one of the greatest examples of Danish
designers within cutlery, bowls, candlesticks and jewellery.
His designs continue to sell across the globe.

Today, the designers listed above are all considered
classic Danish designers and many of their pieces are still
characterized as modern. Some of their designs are even
viewed as art and sell for thousands of dollars at auctions.
They also still inspire new generations of Danish designers,
who continue to impress with creative and revolutionary
approaches to modern and sustainable works. In this
regard, sustainability has become a key component of the
new wave of Danish design.
Danish design in India
The residence of the Danish Ambassador to India is a
perfect epitome of Danish design. It is home to many classic
pieces, which define elegance, functionality and timeless
design. Among the Danish designs decorating the residence
are classics by Finn Juhl, Hans J. Wegner and Le Klint
accompanied by the more modern designs of Hay, Kasper
Salto and Montana. Since 1972, Danish Ambassadors to
India have been living in the Bungalow on Amrita Shergill
Marg, next to the famous Lodhi Garden in New Delhi.
