Habitat:

Found on moist, well drained, sandy and clay-loam soils, in the fog belt along the Pacific Coast. Range from southern Curry County in southwestern Oregon south to Montery County in central California. Range width from 10 to 40 miles form the coast. Elevation range sea level to 3000 feet (Randall et al 1988)

A large tree 180' to 380' tall, 8' to 30 ' in diameter. Needles flat 1/2" to 1" long, dark yellow green above with two bands of stomatal bloom on the underside. Cones oblong to barrel shaped 3/4" to 1" long, reddish brown to dark brown. bark is reddish browm to brick colored and fiborous, 3" to 12" thick (Randall et al 1988).
