Habitat:
Deep moist sandy loam soils. Ranges from British Columbia southward into the mountains of cental Mexico and from the Pacific Coast to the Rocky Mountains. Elevation range is from sea level to 11,000 feet (Randall et al 1988).
A large tree 100' to 250' tall and 3' to 6' in diameter. Needles 1" long, soft slender yellow green, grey greem or blue green, slightly groved abouve and with 2 white stomatal bool on the underside. Cones 3" to 4" long, ovoid-cylindrical, reddish brown with semi woody scales.
Bark smooth thin ash grey on young trees, on mature trees 3" to 10", dark greyish brown and deeply fissured (Randall et al 1988).
