Habitat:
Commonly found in open forests, old fields and along roadsides; on the westside from Washington southward to California (Randall et al 1988).
Shrub with angular, trailing, climbing stems up to 10' long. Then stems are armed with large recurved prickles. Leaves persistant, palmatley compound with 3 to 5 lacerated leaflets; green to reddish green abouve and paler below. Flowers white to pink in color. Fruit black aggregate of small druplets. Stems red to purple in color, stout, ridged,a rmed with large recurved prickles (Randall et al 1988).
