Habitat:
Found west of the Cascade Mountians from British Coulmbia to northern Califorina, common along roadsides and in pastures (Randall et al 1988).
Erect shrub up to 8' tall; stems armed with corse curved prickles. Leaves 2 1/2" to 4 " long, with 5 to 7 oval leaflets; dark green above, pale and pubescent below; emit a cide likeorder when bruised; margins doubly serrate. Flowers mostly pink, occasionally white, single or on clusters of 2 to 4. Fruit red or scalet achens, oval to ellipisoidal hip 1/2" to 3/4" long. Stems round, light green, armed with large recurved prickles; bud scales light green turning red near tips (Randall et al 1988).
