Habitat:
Occurs on moist, well drained sites in the sun or shade under open timber; British Columbia south to California and east to Idaho (Randall et al 1988).
Large erect, spreading shrub up to 12' high, with maple like leaves. Leaves 1 1/2" to 3 1/2" long, nearly as wide, oval to round in outline.; dark green and shiny above, paler and pubescent below; margin 3 to 5 lobed, lobes pointed and the margins serrated (Randall et al 1988).
