Conventions used in Demented
Drama movies are mostly used to cover up serious issues for example bullying, mental issues, issues in our societies. These movies are mainly used to move an audience through heavy emotions and expressions, whereas, Romance film can be defined as a genre where the plot revolves around the love between two protagonists. This genre usually has a theme that explores an issue within love, including but not limited to: love at first sight, forbidden love, love triangles, and sacrificial love etc.
In a drama film, conventions are used to represent certain topics, characters and events and more. These can include structural codes, which are such features as particular kinds of plot, character, or setting. Hence why the music in a drama/ bullying film can be rather bubbly or rock or sometimes soft and romantic as well. The characters are mainly teenagers and their daily routines.
The most generic convention of a romance film includes two characters going through a heartbreak, a couple meet and fall in love, the main characters are a boy and a girl and normally contains emotional feelings, e.g. death, loss of family members.
Examples of Conventions are editing, types of shots used, sound, mise-en scène, setting and lighting.
