Rachel Fitzpatrick is a social worker in the healthcare industry and manages 12 social workers who support patients with kidney disease . Her social work degree has allowed her to use her skills in a different , yet positive way , to support LGBTQ + family members . She is the mother to a 10-year-old gender fluid kiddo and a 8-year-old cisgender daughter .
Jessica Dziobecki has a background in Diagnostic Medical Imaging and is the mom to an 9yr old transgender daughter and 7-year-old cisgender daughter . When Jessica is not advocating and supporting LGBTQ + family members she is managing her household , parenting , exercising , and spending time with her family and boston terrier Maizel .
Cari Brown has been a music / performing arts teacher for the past 20 years and has three gender diverse children . Her passion for LGBTQ + and the arts have led her to opening Ladybug Arts which has several programs that support LGBTQ + youth . Ladybug Arts offers musical theater , improvisation , songwriting , acting and singing where all are welcome .

This workshop will cover the ways in which universities support “ window dressing ” when it comes to valuing diversity on one hand , while continuing to create structural barriers that keep diverse professionals and students on the outside of the academy . We will examine strategies that fail and those that work . Participants will have a chance to share and learn from others who have responsibilities for creating a diverse community that reflects the US . Our presenters have trained graduate students and lead diversity programs in a private college with the charge of creating safes space for professionals and students to have authentic conversations about systemic racism .
