Help bring Sacajawea and son to Charbonneau

Recently , Charbonneau Country Club Manager Jim Meierotto was contacted by Phinney Art Gallery located in Joseph , Oregon .
The gallery has a 6-1 / 2 foot bronze of Sacajawea with baby son , Jean Baptiste Charbonneau , created by Oregon artist Agnes Vincent Talbot . Gallery owner Malcom Phinney felt this community might be interested in purchasing the piece because of our name and history surrounding our area . The gallery loaned us a 24 ” smaller version free of charge to create interest in the piece . You are invited to stop by the Activity Center reception desk to see Sacajawea and son ( nicknamed Pompey ).
A committee to bring the piece here is composed of several volunteers who feel Charbonneau is the perfect home for the bronze . After all , we have a street named after Sacajawea , and Pompey returned to the frontier in his later years , exploring with Lewis and Clark — who took Pompey under their wing after the death of his mother . ( Note : more history will be included in future articles ).
While the CCC Board supports this initiative , it is a private undertaking , and will receive no CCC financial support .
The Charbonneau Arts Committee has generously created a nonprofit organization , Sacajawea Project , to accept tax deductible donations toward the purchase of this spectacular piece and help us raise $ 52,000 ( includes set up and maintenance ). Just think about it ... if 500 people donate just $ 100 we will reach our goal . Better yet , the committee is also creating donation tiers comprising $ 100 , $ 250 , $ 500 and $ 1,000 donors , and will create

a commemorative plaque for all donors .
So please get out those wallets and donate . Make your checks payable to Charbonneau Arts Association and drop them off at the reception desk in the Activity Center . You may also mail in your donation to 32000 SW Charbonneau Drive , Wilsonville , OR , 97070 , attention : Sacajawea Project .
What a wonderful way to enhance our community and surrounding area . Keep an eye out for CCC email blasts about fundraising efforts being planned . We will be kicking off the project with a New Years party in the CCC Event Center Dining Room .
