SEAN HARRISON
Sean Harrison is a 24 year old man and is the main character and protagonist of “The Artifact”. He is shown to be a collector who is fascinated by rare items and wants to add them to his collection. This very fascination and obsession of rare items leads him down a dangerous path where he must escape death and fight things beyond his imagination. Now he must question himself whether collecting rare items are more important then his own life. I successfully followed the conventions of the horror genre by showing the protagonist to be a tired man who works accessively to accomplish his goal but ends up in dangourous situations. I showed his attire to be plain casual clothing showing that he is unemployed and his obsession with the artifact might have cost him his job. He is shown not represent his age group in a sterotypical manner as a 24 year old man is shown to be working or about to complete his studies but instead he is shown to be collecting rare items and is shown tired, more mature and depressed for his age. He is of male gender and is shown to challenge sterotypes as Horror films usually have female protagonists and I had a male protagonist instead.
THE OLD LADY(MARGARET)
Margaret is the name of the old lady in “The Artifact”. She is shown to be kind and the opposite of what Sean thought she was gonna be and has the artifact without knowing that their is a entity trapped in it. She is shown to live alone as she never had any kids and is a widow, her husband passed away a long time ago. Her ancestors trapped the entity 1000 years ago into the artifact and the artifact has been passed down to her family since generations. Since a long time has passed the tale of the artifact was lost and it became no more then an antique. She is not shown as a sterotypical old lady in horror films as old ladies are shown to be evil or witches and even monsters in disguise as one but I have shown her to be a normal kind lady who lives alone. She is shown to represent her age group according to conventions as she doesnt wear bright or fashionable clothing and is shown to be kind and hospitable and due to old age her husband has passed away. She doesn't have a hugely big house but the one she has is given to her by her husband's will and the goverment pays her annually. all these follow the conventions of her age group and social group.
