CORNWALL COLLEGE- GREEN SKILLS ACADEMY
A major redevelopment at Cornwall College St Austell is creating a new generation of teaching facilities centred on green construction, digital learning and sustainable technologies, with BAM delivering one of the most significant further education investments in Cornwall.
Construction is well underway on the transformation of Cornwall College St Austell, where BAM is delivering a multimillion-pound campus redevelopment designed to equip learners with the skills required for a low-carbon economy. The project represents one of only 16 college schemes in England to receive support through the Government’ s Further Education Capital Transformation Fund.
The redevelopment is reshaping the existing campus rather than relocating it, allowing Cornwall College to continue operating while new facilities are constructed in carefully managed phases. Once complete, the campus will provide modern teaching accommodation, a new sixth form centre and specialist learning environments while retaining key existing facilities, including the Keay Theatre and the recently developed Skills Centre.
At the heart of the investment is a renewed emphasis on green skills. The campus has been designed to support training in the technologies and construction methods that are becoming increasingly important as the industry works towards net zero. This complements the Green Construction Skills and Roofing Apprenticeship Academies, which have already opened at the college and provide practical training in renewable energy systems, sustainable construction techniques and energy-efficient building technologies.
Students training within the Green Construction Skills Academy have access to dedicated facilities covering technologies including air source and ground source heat pumps, solar thermal systems and solar photovoltaic installations. Alongside full-time learners, the facilities are also used to upskill existing construction professionals, reflecting growing demand for green skills across the sector.
The wider campus redevelopment has been planned with future learning requirements in mind. New teaching
