111 spaces will support both vocational and academic education, with A-Levels returning to the St Austell campus through the creation of a dedicated sixth form centre. The redevelopment has been designed to strengthen educational opportunities across mid-Cornwall while reducing the need for students to travel elsewhere to access specialist courses.
BAM officially broke ground on the project during spring 2025 and has since progressed construction through a phased programme that allows teaching and campus activities to continue safely throughout the works. Early project updates confirmed that the development had already generated more than £ 1.1 million in local social and economic value, including employment opportunities, apprenticeships and engagement with local suppliers.
The redevelopment also reflects changing priorities across further education estates. Alongside improved teaching accommodation, the new campus has been designed to provide flexible learning environments capable of adapting to future curriculum requirements and advances in construction technology. Sustainable design principles have been incorporated throughout the project as part of the college’ s long-term vision for the campus.
For the construction sector, the investment carries significance beyond the college itself. Cornwall College has positioned the Green Construction Skills Academy as a resource for employers as well as students, supporting workforce development through specialist training and short courses focused on low-carbon construction, retrofit and renewable technologies.
The redevelopment is scheduled for completion in autumn 2027, when the transformed campus will provide a new base for technical education in Cornwall. By combining modern teaching facilities with specialist green skills training, the project is intended to strengthen the pipeline of future construction professionals while supporting the industry’ s transition towards more sustainable methods of building.
