CAMERON WALK DEVELOPMENT
A former garage site in Lockleaze has been transformed into a mixed-use development that combines affordable housing with a new community hub, creating a focal point for local residents and community organisations.
The Cameron Walk development represents one of several projects being delivered through Bristol City Council’ s New Build Housing Programme, but its significance extends beyond housing provision alone. Located in the heart of Lockleaze, the scheme brings together new affordable homes and a purpose-built community centre on a site previously occupied by garages and underused land.
Delivered by Stepnell Limited and designed by Boom Brown Architects & Planning, the development has been planned around the principle of creating a shared neighbourhood destination. Rather than treating the residential and community elements as separate components, the scheme integrates them within a single site layout intended to encourage interaction between residents, visitors and local organisations.
The housing element comprises 30 affordable homes developed for Bristol City Council. The properties provide modern accommodation within an established residential area and contribute to the council’ s wider efforts to increase the supply of affordable housing across the city.
Alongside the new homes, the development includes a dedicated community centre for Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust. The trust has long played an active role in supporting local residents through activities, events and community programmes, and the new facility provides a permanent base from which those services can continue to grow.
The building has been designed to offer flexible internal accommodation capable of supporting a range of uses. Community meetings, educational activities, support services and social events can all be accommodated within the facility, helping maximise its value to the neighbourhood throughout the week.
