The scheme also incorporates ecological and biodiversity enhancements throughout the park. Works include creation of a new wetland habitat adjacent to the existing pond, additional planting, wildflower areas and broader landscape improvements designed to strengthen biodiversity and climate resilience within the site.
Further infrastructure improvements include refurbishment of the existing car park, upgraded drainage systems to reduce flooding risk and installation of new parking bays, including accessible spaces. A new internal access road is also being constructed to improve connections between the athletics facilities, play areas and café building.
Berry Hill Park has longstanding historic and community significance within Mansfield. The park originally formed part of the Berry Hill Estate and lies within the setting of the Grade II listed Berry Hill Hall. Planning documentation for the redevelopment highlighted the importance of balancing modern public facilities with preservation of the park’ s historic landscape character.
Ground Control’ s role extends across landscape construction, biodiversity services and infrastructure delivery within the project. During 2025, the site team received positive recognition through a Considerate Constructors Scheme audit, which commended practices linked to inclusivity, workforce wellbeing and anti-modern slavery procedures on site.
As construction continues, major elements of the redevelopment are now visibly taking shape across the park, including pathway installations, landscaping works and progress on the new community building. Once completed, the scheme will provide Mansfield with significantly upgraded public green space combining recreation, ecology, heritage and community infrastructure within one of the district’ s most prominent parks.
