NEWHAM COLLEGE- Y BLOCK REDEVELOPMENT

Thomas Sinden Construction is delivering the redevelopment of Newham College’ s Y Block in Stratford, replacing outdated teaching accommodation with a modern three-storey facility designed to support future learning and curriculum delivery.
A major redevelopment programme is underway at Newham College’ s Stratford campus, where Thomas Sinden Construction has been appointed to deliver a new teaching block as part of the college’ s ongoing estate improvement strategy. The project will replace the existing Y Block with a modern education facility designed to provide enhanced learning environments and improved campus infrastructure.
The scheme has been funded through the Further Education Capital Transformation Fund, which supports investment in college estates across England. Newham College secured funding for the project as part of its wider programme of campus improvements aimed at modernising facilities and supporting future curriculum requirements.
Thomas Sinden was appointed through the Pagabo Medium Construction Works Framework and is responsible for the demolition of the existing building together with the design and construction of the replacement facility. The redevelopment represents a significant investment in the
Stratford campus and forms a key part of the college’ s long-term estate management plans.
At the centre of the project is a new three-storey teaching block extending to approximately 1,690 square metres. The building will provide contemporary teaching accommodation, including specialist IT suites and flexible learning spaces designed to support modern further education delivery.
The redevelopment extends beyond the building itself and includes improvements to the surrounding external environment. Works encompass refurbishment of the adjacent car park, landscaping and associated infrastructure upgrades, alongside extensive mechanical and electrical installations throughout the new facility.
Architecturally, the building has been designed to create a strong visual presence at the entrance to the campus. The ground floor incorporates London stock brickwork that reflects existing campus buildings, while upper levels introduce insulated render systems and metal
