BOLT WORKS- 122 FLATS, OLD COW GREEN CAR PARK
The former Cow Green car park in Halifax has been transformed into Bolt Works— a £ 21 million, 122 flat build to rent community embodying sustainability, design excellence, and brownfield regeneration.
Bolt Works has officially put Halifax’ s Cow Green car park behind it, replacing the vacant multi-storey site with a thriving new build to rent neighbourhood in the heart of town.
Delivered by Placefirst and constructed by Caddick Construction, this 122 flat development marks a bold step in Calderdale’ s brownfield revitalisation, with support from Calderdale Council, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, and the Greater Manchester Pension Fund.
Activated in 2023 on a site declared unsafe and demolished in 2016, Bolt Works has risen as the first purpose-built rental community in Halifax. The scheme comprises one- and two-bedroom apartments designed for modern renters- pet friendly, energy efficient, and professionally managed. Residents enjoy bike storage, EV charging, and a Resident Services Manager to ensure a seamless living experience.
Sustainability lies at the core of the design. Bolt Works adopts a strict“ fabric first” approach, prioritising thermal efficiency before deploying renewable technologies. The building envelope features air-source heat pumps, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery( MVHR), photovoltaic solar panels, and wastewater heat recovery systems- collectively cutting carbon output and lowering energy bills.
